Ryan's birthday, part 1: Play Group Party

We had a full weekend of celebrating our big 3-year-old!

It all started with a party at play group on Friday. Ryan & Thomas shared a party this year, since they are only a day apart and Friday was actually Thomas' birthday. Thankfully, neither of them seemed to mind. They have been buds since before they were born, after all. I'll never forget walking loops around Lake Crabtree with Lauren, trying to get labor going :)

The morning started off well, with lots of playing & snack. Here's Thomas, responding to the question, "Who's birthday is it?" He looks so excited, doesn't he? haha.

We spent a lot of time playing outside, as it was a beautiful morning.

At least one of the birthday boys was willing to pose for a picture with his mommy. sigh.

The birthday boys!

Relaxing and playing. Meanwhile...

About half way through playing outside, Ryan just started to lose it. I don't know what it was... all the attention? Too much pressure being the birthday boy? I have no idea, but he didn't want to play with his friends anymore and when I told him he had to stay in the general vicinity so that I could keep an eye on him, he lost it and never really recovered for the rest of the party.

We tried to get a group picture anyway... I had to hold Ryan down for it. Ugh.

Everybody (including Ryan! yay!) was happy to come inside for some lunch:

and then it was time for cake! :)

... but Ryan decided he needed a red one AND a blue one. Enter meltdown number 8:
... and another recovery:

So, while the party definitely did not go quite as I had hoped or planned, we still enjoyed celebrating our big 3-year-old boys... and I think they had a little fun too :)

  1. Love love love this post! I hope Ryan enjoyed his actual birthday more than his playgroup birthday. Poor guy. :)
