Spring is a fun time to live in the woods. We've had some beautiful days to enjoy swinging on our porch swing. The above photo was not even really posed. The boys were swinging, Ryan wanted to hold Ethan, and then he asked me to take a picture. And voila! My first ever photo of all 3 of them smiling. Lesson learned - I shouldn't try so hard.
We've had plenty of great opportunities to enjoy nature, though we're solidly into tick/snake/poison ivy season, so no more trekking in the woods for us!
As I mentioned in Ryan's birthday post, we've had a snake visitor. First, he (or his relative) laid across our driveway and I ran him over. He slithered away just fine. Then, he got stuck in our garden fencing and it took 3 of us to get him untangled and set free. And then we came home from Connecticut to find him (or his relative) caught again in the garden net. Since we were away, there was nobody to save him. Poor, stupid snake.
We frequently have turtle visitors on the logs in our creek. I love them, but they don't love me. I had to take this photo from far away and then crop way in, because every time we try to get remotely close to them, they slide right into the water, and then I feel badly for disturbing them.
We've also twice seen these ducks resting on the creek. Once again, they don't like me as much as I like them. I was walking down to get a picture, and right as I took it, they startled and flew away.
We have a bajillion snails on our property. This one was residing in the boys' treehouse. We enjoyed watching him slither along, and Ryan was quite excited to report that he made a D.
Our garden is doing shockingly well. It could be because Ryan prays for it every single night. If I were God, I'd be tired of hearing about Ryan's garden. Good thing I'm not! So far, we've gotten broccoli and lettuce out of it. We also have cherry tomatoes, snap peas, cucumbers, and green beans that appear to be growing quite well.
And we even have a few baby blueberries:
Our woods have been full of jack in the pulpits...
...and I love our roses. Unfortunately, so do our deer. *sigh*
And that's just a little peek into our outside world :)
